At the 21st International Kite Festival “Between Earth and Sky” in Zapyškis, learning about energy blended naturally with the power of wind. During the event held in the Nemunas Valley near the old Zapyškis church, Ignitis Group together with the energy education initiative #EnergySmartSTART invited young festival visitors to become little engineers.
During the wind turbine construction workshop, children explored how wind turbines work: they discussed which blade shapes and how many blades could be the most efficient, built models, carried out experiments, and used a computer program to measure generated power. Curiosity was abundant — after several attempts, many participants succeeded in lighting up LED diodes connected to their models and saw firsthand how wind can be transformed into electrical energy.
The festival theme naturally complemented the educational experience — children not only admired kites decorating the sky but also gained hands-on experience with renewable energy.
This year, #EnergySmartSTART has already visited nearly 100 schools across Lithuania, and more than 4,000 students have participated in energy-related educational activities, fostering curiosity and a better understanding of the world of energy.
