The launch of the “Ignitis ON EV Race: Baltic Science Goes Electric” in Kaunas on 12 June brought not only the excitement of competition, but also educational experiences for schoolchildren. To mark the occasion, students were invited to visit the Mokslo Sala science and innovation centre free of charge and take part in specially designed educational activities focused on energy, sustainability, and e-mobility.
Throughout the event, students engaged in a variety of hands-on activities that introduced them to the principles of green energy and responsible electricity use through practical experience. One of the most engaging activities was the orientation challenge “Charged with Knowledge”, where teams of students completed tasks while exploring the exhibition space.
Participants searched for the so-called “Centre of the World”, explored interactive exhibits, took a closer look at an electric vehicle, and completed challenges related to sustainability, the future of transport, and green energy solutions.
Meanwhile, another group of students participated in laboratory-based educational sessions developed by the STEAM Kaunas team together with the #EnergySmartSTART programme. During these activities, students explored topics such as “Green Energy: Is It Always Renewable?” and “Mission: Responsible Electricity Consumption”. Through experiments and practical tasks, participants learned about different energy sources, their environmental impact, and the importance of responsible electricity consumption in everyday life.
According to the organisers, initiatives like these help young people better understand topics related to energy and climate change not only in theory, but through teamwork, experimentation, and interactive learning experiences.
Students and teachers who took part in the educational activities received symbolic souvenirs, while organisers hope that this dynamic team-based format — helping participants better understand the importance of energy and e-mobility development — will continue at the Mokslo Sala exhibition during the upcoming school year.
Alongside the educational programme, the “Ignitis ON EV Race: Baltic Science Goes Electric” officially started in Kaunas, bringing together participants for a journey across all three Baltic States.
