On June 5, the traditional Green Ideas Festival, held in the inner courtyard and park of the Presidential Palace, once again brought together visitors to explore sustainability, environmental awareness, and responsible everyday choices. The #EnergySmartSTART initiative also took part in the event, continuing its participation in the festival since 2021. Initiated by the President of the Republic of Lithuania, the festival has, for the sixth consecutive year, encouraged communities to engage in discussions about environmental protection and sustainable solutions.
This year’s festival brought together more than 20 companies and organisations, inviting visitors to discover green energy, renewable electricity sources, ecological challenges facing the Baltic Sea, and practical sustainability principles for everyday life. Festival guests also had the opportunity to learn more about protected areas, Lithuania’s national and regional parks, and the importance of preserving ecosystems.
At the festival, #EnergySmartSTART invited visitors – especially school students – to explore energy through hands-on and interactive activities. Participants could complete a puzzle illustrating the journey of electricity from generation to consumption, test their skills with a game of Jenga, and take photos at a dedicated photo booth, where visitors could instantly receive a printed picture as a keepsake from the event.
Activities like these help make complex topics such as energy and sustainability more accessible, engaging, and easier to understand. Introducing young people to energy systems and sustainable solutions through experience encourages curiosity, strengthens understanding of the world around us, and inspires more conscious choices in everyday life.
