Another new edition of the #EnergySmartSTART programme combines various energy initiatives, inviting students and their teachers to learn more about the energy sector and the daily work of energy professionals.Students in grades 9–12 and their teachers can now register to visit the AB “Energijos skirstymo operatorius” (ESO) Practical Training Centre to learn about the work of the specialists who supervise the distribution network.
The event started at the beginning of December and is part of the #EnergySmartSTART programme at ESO’s Practical Training Centre. Pupils and teachers from the Jeronimas Ralys Gymnasium in Jonava attended the first educational event, which lasted up to 1.5 hours and received positive feedback.
“We try to take part in various educational activities that are relevant and useful for students. After all, such activities allow students to broaden their horizons and learn more about different professions, job specifics, and opportunities. During the session at ESO’s Practical Training Centre, the students learnt how electricity reaches our homes; how distribution networks are maintained to be reliable and efficient; who is responsible for troubleshooting network faults and connecting new customers, and how to handle electricity safely. We hope that this visit will help the students to decide what they would like to do in the future,” said Rita Morkaitienė, physics teacher at the Jeronimas Ralys Gymnasium, emphasising the benefits of the education.
Students and teachers of grades 9–12 are invited to attend the education organised by ESO’s Practical Training Centre. Educational sessions occur once a month, on Tuesdays, at 10 am. There is a maximum limit of 25 participants, and those interested are invited to register now at https://energysmartstart.lt/edukaciniai-uzsiemimai-eso-praktiniu-mokymu-centre/.

“The energy sector is growing and changing rapidly — wind and solar farms are being developed in Lithuania, more and more electricity consumers are emerging, and the distribution network needs to be constantly upgraded. Working in the energy sector is dynamic, with opportunities for development and career progression. I am delighted that the #EnergySmartSTART programme is providing more and more opportunities for students to get a closer look at the daily routine of working in the energy sector,” says Kotryna Mazuronytė, coordinator of ESO’s Practical Training Centre.
The #EnergySmartSTART information platform, initiated by the energy company Ignitis Group, is aimed at school and university students and other people who are actively thinking about a career in energy and want to get to know the field better. The programme includes excursions to energy sites, lecturers visiting Lithuanian schools, and shadowing trips to see what workplaces might interest school or university students. The programme and its various initiatives aim to help young people understand themselves and the energy sector better, so they have a better idea of what kind of career they want to pursue.
